Once again, Iron Savior has released a sonic tour de force. It's nice to know that there are some things in this world that you can count on. From start to finish it's just relentless power metal.
It seems that Pete Sielk and crew have finally abandoned the artificial intelligence concept and instead just concentrated on writing good stand alone songs. The whole concept was just a little too involved to follow or understand. Not that those were bad albums, I just couldn't keep up with a story that spanned 4 CD's. While the lyrics still have a science fiction theme, they're not trying to tell an epic tale. Now, on Megatropolis, and the previous Battering Ram CD, they just play good metal tunes, and play them well.
The guitar combo of Pete Sielk and Joachim Kustner has gone in a direction of much more traditional, down to earth riffing. The music isn't jumping all over the place like on some of their previous material. The songs have a much more sense of flow and continuity to them. I'm really glad that they're not trying to sound like Symphony X. Pete has also really learned to use his singing voice to it's full potential too, incorporating a number of catchy melodies and choruses that almost leave you wanting to sing along.
From the opening riffs of Running Riot to the final notes of Farewell and Goodbye it's just one great power metal tune after another. I would certainly rate this as one of the best new CD's of 2008 that I've heard so far. Let's face it, Iron Savior will always sound like Iron Savior, and that suits this power metal fan just fine.
